A maximum of 128p display that supports PNGs, JPEGs, GIFs and custom colors. "Transparents" has to False for GIFs. Should have nyan cat GIF as an example. You should only include one image or one GIF at a time.

which version of python am I supposed to use this with

I have python 3.12.2. I don't know though if Python image library (PIL) has to installed or if it's ready for use.
