Update Log for Junkerpocalypse PvE Hero Defense (14)

Junkerpocalypse has been updated for Overwatch 2!

  • Added support for new maps!
  • Added the new heroes as enemies!
  • The no healer defense heroes can now be any support, because the support passive allows them to self heal!
  • Added a unique weakness to each of the bosses!
  • Added tips between rounds to explain these weaknesses and other unique interactions!
  • Fixed several OW2 related bugs!

Several changes were made!

  • The maximum number of enemies that can exist at one time is now based on the number of players!
  • The difficulty tiers have been renamed to Normal, Hard, and Insane to more accurately represent the difficulty!
  • Insane difficulty has been rebalanced!

Several changes have been made to the enemies!

  • All enemies except for bosses finally have ultimate forms!
  • Enemy Roadhogs now reload between each shot to make it more clear when they're about to attack!
  • The enemies on hard difficulty have been rebalanced!

Several changes have been made to the modifiers!

  • The upgraded strong modifier has been reworked! It now significantly reduces the effects of stuns and knockback when upgraded!
  • The durable modifier now gives an armor health pool in addition to the usual double health! This new addition to the modifier gives 25 armor to tanks and 100 to other heroes!
  • Enemies are now much more likely to retarget when attacked by a player with the durable modifier at close range!
  • The upgraded fast modifier now gives a new ability! Once it's upgraded you can melee enemies to stun them, jump backward, and gain a small amount of shield health!
  • The default modifier selection is now randomized!

The defense hero is now smarter!

  • It will now try to stand behind the players when enemies are around!
  • It no longer completely stops if it loses sight of the player it was following! It now attempts to reach their last known location before stopping!

A new Quick Game setting has been added and is now the default mode!

  • When the Quick Game setting is enabled the Junkerpocalypse only has 10 rounds.
  • Only some enemies unlock in a Quick Game. They're chosen randomly for each playthrough.
  • In a Quick Game both heroes have to be successfully defended to win.
  • The old behavior can be restored by turning off the Quick Game Workshop setting.

One of the most fun parts of Junkerpocalypse is reaching the higher rounds and experimenting with the different hero modifiers. In the previous format there was so much to unlock that it took forever to reach the modifiers and it was hard to keep track of all the different enemies. This new format requires much less commitment to reach the modifier rounds, so there's less pressure to make sure you pick the perfect one. The smaller randomized list of enemies not only makes it easier to remember what they all do, but it also makes each playthrough a unique experience with unique hero and modifier counters! This format seems like a significant improvement from the previous format, so it's now the default. The old format is still available through the Workshop settings.

Other changes were made!

  • The upgraded life steal modifier no longer heals nearby allies when it's triggered by healing an ally!
  • The final round now spawns a boss with a special modifier that makes them much stronger than a regular boss!
  • Several sound effects were improved!
  • Bugs were fixed!

General improvements were made!

  • A final round has been added!

Junkerpocalypse is automatically generated as the game progresses, so it can technically go on forever. Even though it's capable of doing this the difficulty can't really increase after everything is unlocked, so it quickly starts to get boring after that. I've decided to add a final round to Junkerpocalypse that occurs by default on round 30. The final round includes one final difficulty increase and allows the players to win if they pass it. The round where this happens can be changed in the Workshop settings. This has technically been there for a long time set to 999 and it can be set back to 999 to go back to the endless version.

  • Most unlocks have been moved to lower rounds!

The Junkerpocalypse is too long. It often took over an hour of gameplay to get upgraded modifiers. Now it should take much less time to complete a full game.

Most of the enemies have been reworked to feel more responsive!

  • They now try to dodge your attacks
  • Some enemies are now more accurate than others and miss more often when you move
  • Most enemies attack more frequently now
  • Many of them have been rebalanced or reworked to fit the more frequent attack speed
  • There can now be a total of 8 enemies spawned at the same time instead of 6

Some changes have been made to the modifiers!

  • All of the modifiers now have nicer looking effects
  • The durable player modifier now makes it easier to trigger damage stuns
  • The durable modifier now makes the affected player or enemy bigger

Some general changes were made too!

  • The short enemy reveal cutscenes have been disabled. There's so many different enemies that the cutscenes were actually disruptive to the gameplay
  • The out of bounds teleport that happens when you leave the fighting area for too long now applies a stun and temporary invincibility, so you're less likely to die immediately if there's a crowd of enemies near the start point
  • Performance improvements! Hopefully this means less crashing in the later rounds

Updated the share code to keep it from expiring!

The Junkerpocalypse is everywhere! This gamemode is now compatible with all Assault, Escort, Hybrid, and Control maps!

There's now a new tier of Ultimate Form enemies that starts at round 42! Ultimate Form enemies are better versions of regular and Alternate Form enemies that attack differently. To deal with the stronger enemies player modifiers now unlock upgrades at round 42! Each modifier gets a unique twist that makes it more effective.

Ana, Echo, and Zarya have been added as enemies! The gamemode now supports all 32 heroes as enemies!

The escort round's enemy repositioning has been improved! Enemies now appear to come out of nearby rooms instead of spontaneously appearing stunned in front of a random player!
