Update Log for Mega Heroes (13)

Mega Heroes now works with Overwatch 2!

Each of the new heroes has a new Mega Hero ability

Mega Sojourn

  • Mega Sojourn's teammates can press Interact to slide

Mega Junker Queen

  • Hitting an enemy player with Mega Junker Queen's primary fire slows them

Mega Kiriko

  • Healing an ally as Mega Kiriko makes them move faster

For balance reasons Sombra's reworked ultimate has been disabled

New Mega Hero Abilities!

  • Mega D.va can finally use her ultimate!
  • Mega D.va and her mech now have separate health values that aren't affected by using her ult!
  • Mega Bastion's ammo stealing ability has been replaced with 2 new abilites!
  • In recon form Mega Bastion can use his normally unused ability button to fire a laser that does significant damage and stuns enemy players hit! Firing it costs his entire heal resource bar.
  • In sentry form Mega Bastion can use the same ability button to damage and stun enemy players around him! This ability does less damage, but also costs less healing resource.

A new Mega Hero ability was added!

  • Mega Pharah now regains some of her own flight fuel after giving her teammates flight fuel!

Some changes were made to some Mega Heroes!

  • Mega Reinhardt and Mega Brigitte can now push the enemy Mega Hero with their primary weapons! It's not as strong as a Mega Melee, but it should make it a little harder for the other Mega Hero to just push them around.
  • Mega Sombra's Stealth now hides her Mega Hero icon, but it can only be used for 7 seconds!
  • Mega Bastion is no longer moved by the Mega Melee in sentry form! He's still affected by the Mega Charge + Mega Melee combo in sentry form.

Some general changes were made!

  • Each round now has a time limit! After the time limit is reached the round will end and the team who's Mega Hero has the most health will win the round. By default this time is 15 minutes, but it can be changed from the Workshop settings.
  • Backfilled Mega Heroes will now die if the previous Mega Hero was dead!

A New Mega Hero Ability!

  • Mega Moira's primary healing now applies the same effect as her healing orb!

Easier Hosting!

  • The teams now automatically randomize themselves when the auto restart setting is enabled!

Some General Changes to Every Mega Hero!
The increased mobility and knockback reliant defensive abilities every Mega Hero has can often make playing the Mega Hero feel less like playing a Mega Hero and more like piloting a giant balloon. These changes are aimed at making the Mega Heroes feel a little heavier while still allowing them to get around and make space effectively.

  • Mega Heroes now have increased gravity!
  • Mega Heroes now take less knockback!
  • Mega Heroes now recieve slightly more healing than before!

Some bugs were fixed!

  • It's no longer possible for a Mega Hero to get permanently stuck between part of the map and a death plane!

Previously a Mega Hero could get stuck endlessly dying if they fell off the map in a place where part of the map prevented them from bouncing back up. That's no longer possible. As a result of this fix Mega Heroes will now die if they fall off the map with less than 10% health.

  • Mega D.va's health is now properly tracked by the gamemode!

This affects things like the health penalty for falling off the map and the amount of health a backfilled Mega Hero will have if a Mega D.va leaves before the end of a round. Previously this wasn't handled very well.

A new Mega Hero ability has been added!

  • Mega Moira's healing orbs now temporarily make her teammates bigger. This gives them extra health and damage.

Cool effects!

  • A new setting called Fancy Effects has been added that allows the gamemode to use better looking effects enabled by Workshop extensions! To use the new options provided by this setting you have to enable the correct Workshop extensions in the Workshop script. More information about this is available at the bottom of the gamemode description.

Smooth scaling!

  • The Mega Heroes now have a nice animation when they change size! At some point or another you've most likely seen a Mega Hero step on a weird piece of map geometry and start chaotically changing size like they're about to explode. That shouldn't happen anymore. This also makes it a lot harder to glitch out of the map in addition to looking nice.

Easy hosting!

  • The Mega Heroes now gain an ability to switch an enemy player to their team when the teams are unbalanced by 2 or more players! When hosting you shouldn't have to mess with the teams at all now. This can be disabled in the gamemode settings and is automatically disabled when Super Mega Heroes are enabled.
  • The gamemode now automatically restarts after the play of the game! This is also a setting that can be disabled.

Several Mega Heroes have new abilities!

  • Mega Brigitte now gives nearby teammates a small amount of ultimate charge when hitting the enemy Mega Hero! The amount of charge decreases when more friendly players are affected.
  • Mega McCree now gives nearby teammates increased projectile speed! The effect is always active, but only for players near Mega McCree.
  • Mega Winston's weapon now does extra damage to enemy players with high health, but decreased damage to enemy players with low health. His weapon also applies a shock status that makes it more difficult for the enemy player to control their hero. The status becomes stronger as the enemy's health decreases.
  • Mega Winston now does extra damage when throwing an enemy player at the enemy Mega Hero!
  • Mega Mercy can now apply a Mercy status to enemy players by picking them up after their Mega Hero is eliminated! The Mercy status prevents the enemy player from doing damage and allows the round to end without killing them.
  • Mega Sombra now gives friendly players a single use ability to translocate back to her when her invisiblity status is applied!

Some Mega Hero abilities are disruptive or confusing to use and often aren't used much as a result. A few changes have been made in this update to improve some of those abilities.

  • Mega Mei's one time use ice blocks are now given to players affected by her Mega Ice Block!
  • Mega Dva's temporary ammo and ability charge increase is now applied by her mech ability!
  • Mega Zenyatta's teammates can now look at him to gain ultimate charge over time!

Some general things not related to any specific Mega Hero were also changed.

  • Players no longer respawn at the position of their Mega Hero!

When the respawn position was originally changed it was meant to make it clearer that the Mega Hero is connected to the team's ability to respawn and I figured the Mega Hero would draw most of the attention away from the respawning players. As I've played the mode more I've found this isn't the case with many Mega Hero playstyles and it feels awful for the players. The gamemode now uses normal respawn positions by default. The previous option is available as a Workshop setting if you liked it better before.

  • The gamemode will now try to avoid picking the same player as the Mega Hero several times in a row!

The Mega Hero selection has always been random, but sometimes it seems as if the mode just wants to pick the same player over and over again. This is often annoying for the player being selected and their team, since the Mega Hero can't easily switch heroes and several of their teammates don't get to be the Mega Hero at all. This change ensures that won't happen unless there's only one player on the team!

  • The performance has been majorly improved!

Now that it doesn't crash often this doesn't seem like much, but the complexity of this mode requires constant performance improvements to keep new features from causing it to crash frequently. Usually, this is what limits the size of the updates. Recently, I found a way to dramatically increase the performance and add this mega update!

  • Mega Winston has a new ability! Using his Jump Pack now gives nearby friendly players Jump Pack Fuel that allows them to fly in any direction for a short time
  • Mega Mei has a new ability! When Mega Mei uses her Ice Block any nearby friendly players will now enter the Ice Block with her. The bug that caused the Ice Block to chaotically change size while active has also been fixed.
  • Mega Sombra's Stealth now applies her invisibility status to nearby friendly players!
  • Mega Strength now charges slower for a few seconds after throwing a player!
  • Baptiste's Immortality Field no longer heals Mega Heroes! The cooldown nerf has been removed
  • Some Mega Heroes had minor balance changes!
  • Some Mega Hero abilities now give assist credit!
  • Text now shows which players are within range of Mega Strength when a Mega Hero holds crouch!
  • Mega Orisa has a new ability! Friendly players near Mega Orisa when she uses Fortify now gain a faster projectile speed
  • Mega Ashe has a new ability! When Mega Ashe uses her ultimate nearby friendly players will be given their ultimates and charge in with Mega Bob
  • Some Mega Hero barriers now have more health!
  • A few other balance changes were made!
  • The performance has been improved further to reduce crashing even more!
  • Performance improvements have been made! The mode should now be able to consistently handle a full 6v6 game without crashing!
  • Mega Genji has a new ability! Mega Genji now gives his team the ability to double jump
  • Mega Widowmaker's team grapple ability now has fewer restrictions and can be used to cancel Mega Strength!
  • Mega Sombra's invisibility will now reapply itself as long as Mega Strength is still active!
  • A few bugs were fixed!

  • Mega Torbjorn has a new ability! Mega Torbjorn can now repair and upgrade friendly players with his hammer
  • Mega Echo has 2 new abilities! Mega Echo's Flight now launches nearby friendly players into the air and players on Mega Echo's team can now glide while in the air
  • More Mega Heroes can see useful information related to their abilities when they look at a teammate!
